The root canal is the space in the middle of the roots of your tooth
where the nerves and blood supply are. Root Canal Treatment (RCT) may
be necessary if a tooth's pulp (nerve and blood supply) become infected
or inflamed. A RCT may be the only way to save the tooth without removing
it. This process gives the patient a safe and effective way to treat
and infected or inflamed tooth.
RCT consists of removing the nerve within the root of the tooth and
placing a permanent filling in the canal space. After this treatment
has been completed, a permanent filling is usually placed in the tooth
to restore it. Often it is necessary to put a crown on this tooth to
strengthen it and protect it from fracturing. |
