The purpose of preventive dentistry is to stop future dental problems before they develop into something major. You do your part with regular brushing, flossing, and regular check-ups; we do our part with a comprehensive examination and professional cleaning.

Regularly scheduled dental examinations and prophylaxis (cleanings):

It is important to have regular check-up appointments, which in most cases is every six months. You’ll need to have an examination and professional cleaning during these appointments. What difference does a professional cleaning make? It removes plaque, tartar and stains from your teeth. It also helps prevent gum disease and improves your appearance.

Oral hygiene:

Dental health begins with good oral hygiene. This requires both professional care and home care. When you follow our recommend care, you will be able to maintain healthier teeth and gums. Please see Oral Hygiene Instructions.

Fluoride use:

Fluoride use is an important supplement to fighting decay. Children who drink well water or only bottled water require a fluoride supplement. Adults with a history of tooth decay or only drink bottled or well water may be prescribed an extra strength fluoride rinse or paste to help protect their teeth from developing cavities.

Sealants:

Sealants are made of a special material we place on the chewing surface of your tooth to keep out harmful germs and bacteria. They can prevent future cavities from developing. These days, sealants are routinely placed on children’s permanent molars and bicuspids as early as age six.

Nightguards:

Nightguards are recommended for patients who clench or grind their teeth.
