Post-Treatment Recommendations
Anesthesia:
- You will continue to be under the effects of the anesthetic for
several hours following your treatment. Depending on the type of
anesthetic you had, the lower arch will most likely stay numb longer
than the upper arch.
- Please use caution when eating or drinking anything while numb.
We recommend a soft and moderate temperature diet during this time.
Avoid hot, hard or chewy foods so you do not burn or bite yourself
for the next few hours.
What to expect:
- While you may experience any of the following, you usually will
feel normal with little or no discomfort.
- Your gum tissue may become achy and you may have some temporary
sensitivity to cold. Ibuprofen** or acetaminophen** may help with
any discomfort.
- Occasionally, slight swelling or stiffness may occur. If it does,
place a warm moist towel to your face in the area of the stiffness.
- Occasionally there is soreness in the injection site, which can
last a day or two. Ibuprofen** or acetaminophen** may help with this
discomfort.
Things to do:
- Rinse your mouth 2-3 times per day with warm salt water (dissolve ½ teaspoon
salt in an 8 oz. glass of warm water). Start home care as instructed.
In the beginning, you may have to very gentle.
- Your next meal should consist of soft foods.
Things not to do:

popcorn, caramels, etc. for the next 3-4 days.
